Bringing Visionary Care to Peshawar: Khyber Eye Foundation's Mobile Camp Initiative

In a concerted effort to address the pressing need for accessible eye care services, the Khyber Eye Foundation’s Mobile Camp Team embarked on a pivotal journey to the Dalazak Road Dispensary in Peshawar on March 9, 2024. This outreach initiative marks another significant step in the Foundation’s mission to extend comprehensive eye care to underserved regions of Pakistan.

The mobile camp witnessed an overwhelming response from the local community, with a total of 184 individuals benefitting from the services provided. Among them, 51 adult male patients and 115 adult female patients availed themselves of the opportunity for essential eye examinations and treatments. Additionally, the camp catered to the needs of 7 male children and 11 female children, ensuring that eye health awareness is instilled from a young age.

One of the hallmark features of the camp was the distribution of free medicines, with a total of 153 individuals receiving essential medications to address various ocular conditions. Furthermore, 99 individuals were fitted with free glasses, thereby significantly improving their visual acuity and quality of life.

During the screenings, 34 patients were diagnosed with cataracts, a condition that can severely impair vision if left untreated. Recognizing the critical importance of timely intervention, these individuals were referred to the Khyber Eye Foundation for free cataract surgery, ensuring that they receive the specialized care they need to restore their vision and regain their independence.

The success of the mobile camp underscores the vital role played by community-driven initiatives in promoting eye health and combating preventable blindness. By extending its reach to remote regions and underserved communities, the Khyber Eye Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that no individual is left behind in the journey towards vision restoration and ocular wellness.

As the Foundation continues its tireless efforts to expand access to eye care services, initiatives such as the mobile camp serve as shining beacons of hope, illuminating the path towards a future where visual impairment is a thing of the past, and every individual enjoys the gift of sight and dignity.
