"Love Your Eyes" Campaign: A Call to Action on World Sight Day 2022
World Sight Day 2022, spearheaded by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), serves as a powerful global call to action. On Thursday, October 15th, 2022, this event will shine a spotlight on the critical issue of eye health, focusing on the dire needs of the 1.1 billion people worldwide who lack access to essential eye care. In today’s technology-driven world, where eye strain and vision issues are increasingly prevalent, the “Love Your Eyes” campaign is more relevant than ever. It calls on both employees and employers to prioritize ocular well-being, promoting long-lasting employment and unlocking individual potential.
A key component of this year’s campaign is the emphasis on workplace vision care. The campaign advocates for proactive measures to safeguard eye health in the workplace, urging employees and employers alike to take responsibility for their own vision as well as that of their colleagues. In an age where screens dominate our daily lives, protecting our eyes has never been more crucial.
Amidst this global initiative, the Khyber Eye Foundation has made a significant contribution by organizing a symbolic walk at their location in Ejazabad, Gulbahar No.4, Peshawar. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of eye health, particularly in the workplace, where many people spend long hours in front of screens and under poor lighting conditions. The walk not only highlighted the significance of caring for our eyes during work but also provided invaluable guidance to the participants on how to protect their vision.
The symbolic walk is part of the broader World Sight Day Global Challenge, coordinated by the IAPB. This initiative seeks to raise awareness about eye health among the global workforce and encourages employees worldwide to prioritize the eye care of their colleagues. In a world where the pressures of daily life can sometimes overshadow health and well-being, these efforts serve as poignant reminders that our eyes are vital instruments for navigating our professional lives. It is our collective duty to make eye health a central part of workplace culture, for the sake of well-being, productivity, and the millions of people around the world in need of essential eye care services.
In the context of World Sight Day 2023, a special event was held to honor this important occasion. The gathering was hosted by Administrator Mr. Obaidullah Siddiqui and Deputy Administrator Mr. Asim Raheel, who extended a warm welcome to esteemed guests and distinguished board members. Among the notable figures in attendance were the Director Technical, Professor Dr. Shad Mohammad; Director of Finance, Mr. Khalid Sultan Khwaja; Director of Administration, Mr. Faiz Muhammad; former Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Ghayur Sethi; Director, Mr. Ahtasham Haleem; and several other respected attendees.
The event’s highlight was the keynote address delivered by Professor Dr. Shad Mohammad. In his captivating speech, he underscored the importance of World Sight Day and its role in bringing global attention to the urgent need for better eye care. His insights resonated with the audience, deepening their understanding of the cause and reinforcing their commitment to the mission. Following his address, Dr. Shad Mohammad demonstrated his commitment to compassionate care by personally distributing walking sticks to deserving out-patient department (OPD) patients.

These efforts are paving the way for a healthier, more productive global workforce. By making eye health a priority, we are taking a significant step toward a world where everyone can see clearly, work effectively, and live better lives. The “Love Your Eyes” campaign stands as a beacon of hope, guiding us toward a future where eye health is at the forefront of public consciousness.
