Khyber Eye Foundation Hosts Successful Free Eye Camp at ICMS School, Zaryab Colony, Peshawar

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Khyber Eye Foundation (KEF) organized a free eye camp at ICMS School in Zaryab Colony, Peshawar. This initiative is part of KEF’s broader mission to enhance access to eye care and promote awareness about the importance of vision health, particularly in educational institutions where early detection of vision problems can significantly impact a student’s academic performance and overall quality of life. The camp was led by a team of KEF’s skilled ophthalmologists, optometrists, and support staff who dedicated their day to serving the students of ICMS School, conducting thorough eye screenings, providing necessary treatments, and educating them on maintaining eye health.

The camp saw a remarkable turnout, with a total of 300 students receiving comprehensive eye screenings. These screenings were designed to detect various vision issues that, if left unaddressed, could interfere with learning and development. After examining all the students, the team identified specific needs for vision correction and further treatment:

  • 69 students required refraction services to determine the exact corrective lenses necessary to achieve optimal vision. These students were given accurate prescriptions to address their unique visual needs.
  • 34 students were advised to use prescription glasses, as their screenings indicated refractive errors that could be easily corrected with glasses, allowing them to see clearly and enhance their participation in the classroom and daily activities.
  • 35 students were referred to the Khyber Eye Foundation facility for detailed eye check-ups. These referrals ensure that students requiring specialized attention and further diagnostic tests have access to the best resources and personalized care.

The importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated, as they play a crucial role in both preventive care and the early detection of eye conditions that can affect a student’s potential and self-confidence. By identifying and addressing these issues early, KEF not only supports these students in achieving academic success but also improves their long-term vision health.

This camp was also an opportunity for KEF to foster awareness within the local community about the value of eye health and preventive care. The Khyber Eye Foundation team took the time to provide educational materials and practical advice on eye care, focusing on how lifestyle choices, protective eyewear, and regular check-ups can make a significant difference in maintaining eye health from a young age.

Khyber Eye Foundation extends its gratitude to ICMS School for its support in organizing the camp and to the community for its enthusiastic participation. KEF remains committed to its goal of delivering quality eye care to underserved populations across the region. This successful event at ICMS School is one of many initiatives KEF plans to implement to promote eye health and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to see the world clearly. We look forward to expanding these efforts in the future and to working together with schools, communities, and partners to achieve a world without avoidable blindness.
